I recently read a USA Today article about how more Americans are relying on side hustles to help pay their bills, and honestly, I wasn't surprised.

The article shared that many people are taking on extra work to help cover essentials as prices continue to rise. Reading it felt less like news and more like a description of what so many of us are already experiencing.

As a full-time single mom with a career in analytics, I understand why people are looking for ways to bring in additional income.

I love my job.

I love the stability that comes with a full-time career. I like knowing when payday is coming. I like having benefits. I like having a career I've worked hard to build.

But I also like having income coming in from other places.

The truth is, my side hustles have helped me pay medical bills, utilities, childcare expenses, and plenty of those unexpected costs that seem to pop up at the worst possible time.

If you've ever opened your mailbox and found a bill you weren't expecting, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

For me, having extra income isn't about trying to become the next millionaire overnight.

It's about having options.

It's about having a little breathing room.

It's about not feeling like every dollar already has a job before it even hits my bank account.

And if I'm being completely honest, I would love for my online income to eventually match my salary one day.

Maybe even replace it.

But that's not why I started.

I started because I wanted more security for myself and my family.

They want to save more.

Sleep a little better at night.

Honestly, I think that's what side hustles are doing for a lot of families right now.

And maybe that's changing what the American Dream looks like.

For years, we were told the dream was a house with a white picket fence, a steady job, and retirement someday.

Today, it might look a little different.

Maybe it's a stable career and a side hustle.

Maybe it's a paycheck and affiliate commissions.

Maybe it's creating content after work.

Maybe it's selling handmade products to customers you've never met.
