Nobody warned me about how quiet building an online business could feel.
Before I started, I thought the hardest part would be learning the technical side of things.
The websites.
The content.
The email marketing.
The affiliate links.
And yes, those things can be challenging.
But what surprised me most was something completely different.
It was the feeling of talking to the void.
That's honestly the best way I can describe it.
You spend time writing a blog post you're proud of.
You create the graphics.
You send the newsletter.
You post on social media.
And then you wait.
And wait.
And wait some more.
Sometimes nothing happens.
No replies.
No sales.
No obvious signs that anyone even saw what you spent hours creating.
I think every creator experiences this at some point.
At least I hope they do, because there were days when I genuinely wondered if I was posting into an empty room.
Social media can make it seem like everyone else is constantly getting engagement and building momentum. Every time you open an app, someone is celebrating a milestone, sharing a success story, or posting another screenshot of their growth.
Meanwhile, you're sitting there refreshing your own post wondering if your internet is broken.
I've had those moments.
More than once.
And if I'm being honest, those moments can be discouraging.
It's hard to keep showing up when it feels like nobody is listening.
It's hard to stay motivated when the results aren't immediate.
It's hard not to compare yourself to people who seem to be moving faster.
But one thing I've learned over time is that silence doesn't always mean nobody is paying attention.
People don't always interact with content the way we think they will.
Some people read quietly.
Some people watch quietly.
Some people follow your journey for months before ever saying a word.
I've had people join my newsletter and tell me they've been reading my blog for weeks.
I've had people respond to emails referencing posts I forgot I even wrote.
I've had people tell me they found something encouraging that I almost didn't publish.
Every time that happens, I'm reminded that the void isn't always empty.
Sometimes people are listening quietly from the sidelines.
And honestly, that's what keeps me going.
Not because every post performs well.
Not because every blog goes viral.
But because every once in a while, someone reminds me that there is a real person on the other side of the screen.
Someone learning.
Someone relating.
Someone finding value in what I'm sharing.
Building an online business still has quiet days.
I don't think that part ever completely goes away.
But these days, when I start feeling like I'm talking to the void, I remind myself that progress isn't always visible.
Sometimes the seeds are growing before you can see them.
And sometimes the people you're helping are simply quiet about it.
