What I'm Tracking During My Sweepstakes Letter Writing Journey

What I'm Tracking During My Sweepstakes Letter Writing Journey

One of the reasons I started documenting my sweepstakes letter-writing journey is that I was curious.

Not just about whether it worked.

But about how it worked.

When most people talk about sweepstakes letter writing, the conversation usually focuses on the outcome. How many credits were received? How much was earned? Whether it was worth the effort.

Those things are important, of course.

But I've always been interested in the process too.

Maybe that's the blogger in me.

Or maybe it's because I've learned that what happens behind the scenes is often just as valuable as the final result.

Now that I've mailed my first batch of letters, I've officially entered the waiting phase of the journey. And while I wait, I've been thinking about what information I want to track along the way.

One thing I've learned from building online is that it's easy to rely on memory until you realize your memory isn't nearly as reliable as you thought it was.

Ask me what I had for lunch three days ago and we're both going to be disappointed.

So instead of trying to remember everything, I've started keeping notes.

The first thing I'm tracking is submission dates.

It sounds simple, but I think it's going to be one of the most useful pieces of information later on. Knowing exactly when a letter was mailed gives me a reference point when credits eventually start showing up.

At least that's the plan.

The second thing I'm tracking is processing time.

This is probably the metric I'm most curious about right now.

How long does it actually take for a submission to be reviewed?

How long does it take for credits to appear?

Does one platform move faster than another?

I don't know the answers yet.

But I intend to find out.

Another thing I'm paying attention to is platform requirements.

One thing I've already noticed is that every platform seems to have its own process.

Some require request codes.

Some have different formatting requirements.

Some have specific instructions that need to be followed exactly.

For example, Modo Casino requires a unique request code for each submission. That means every index card has its own corresponding code.

It's not difficult once you understand the process, but it's definitely one of those details that's important to get right.

I'm also tracking how much time each platform requires.

I think this part often gets overlooked.

When people discuss opportunities online, they usually focus on potential rewards.

What they don't always discuss is the amount of time involved.

Preparing materials.

Writing requests.

Generating codes.

Organizing submissions.

Mailing everything.

Those steps matter too.

I'm interested in understanding the full picture.

Not just the outcome.

Another thing I'll be tracking is costs.

Stamps cost money.

Index cards cost money.

Envelopes cost money.

None of these expenses is enormous individually, but they still matter.

I want to understand exactly what I'm spending compared to what I'm receiving so I can evaluate the process honestly.

I think that's especially important for beginners.

It's easy to get excited about opportunities online.

It's a little harder to slow down and evaluate them objectively.

That's one reason I've committed to documenting everything.

Not because I have all the answers.

But I want a realistic picture of what this experience looks like.

At this point, I don't know exactly what the next update will look like.

Maybe I'll be sharing my first credits.

Maybe I'll be sharing unexpected challenges.

Maybe I'll discover things I wasn't expecting at all.

That's part of what makes this interesting.

For now, the letters are mailed.

The tracking has begun.

And the waiting continues.
